So, you are thinking about learning how to SCUBA Dive.... Congratulations! Your life is about to change forever. Tri-City SCUBA offers SCUBA certifications courses through several training agencies including SSI, PADI, NAUI, SDI and TDI. The certification process and skills learned are very similar with all SCUBA training agencies and all of the agencies we teach for are recognized worldwide. Our primary training agency is SSI because they offer the best educational system in the dive industry.
SSI has put together a video series that to help you get a glimpse into what you will learn. To watch the videos, click on the link below.
The Open Water SCUBA Certification course is broken up into five parts.
Course Orientation
The first step in the process is to attend a course orientation. The orientation will go over their course schedule as well as a familiarization with SSI and Tri-City SCUBA's programs. You can attend the orientation prior to or after you register for the course. The orientation session takes about an hour and the dates can be found on our calendar.
Independent Study
When you sign up for the course you will registered for the online academics. The online course creates a foundation of knowledge that the rest of the course will be build upon. We teach almost exclusively SSI classes as their course materials are the most thorough and up-to-date of any training agency in the world. SSI is the industry leader in technology and training materials available to both the students and instructors.
Classroom Training
The classroom portion of the course is done in one or two sessions. This can vary depending on the size of the class. All online coursework must be completed prior to attending the classroom training.
Confined Water Training
The confined water portion of the class is done in a pool or confined water (shallow) setting. Students will attend at least two pool or confined water training sessions. Each session is approximately 3-4 hours long.
Open Water Training
The final segment of the class is the open water training. This consists of at least 4 open water training dives over a 2 day period. The training is typically done at Lake Phoenix but can be done in conjunction with a dive trip as well. In the cooler months, November through April, you can join us on one of our Florida Springs trips to complete your certification for an additional cost.
