Course Overview
Become a more confident and capable diver with the SSI Navigation Specialty Course. Underwater navigation is one of the most valuable skills a diver can develop, helping you stay oriented, conserve energy, and safely return to your exit point or boat.
During this course, you’ll learn how to use both natural navigation techniques and a dive compass to confidently find your way underwater. We’ll cover topics such as estimating distance, navigation patterns, underwater orientation, and combining natural references with compass navigation for maximum effectiveness.
Through academic training and practical open water dives, you’ll develop the skills needed to navigate in a variety of underwater environments and conditions. Whether you’re exploring local quarries, wrecks, reefs, or low-visibility environments, strong navigation skills will make every dive safer and more enjoyable.
The SSI Navigation Specialty Course is an excellent addition to any diver’s continuing education and can be combined with other SSI Specialty programs as you work toward higher SSI recognition levels.
