A New Way to Dive: The Avelo System
Built for experienced divers ready to rethink buoyancy, weight, and control underwater.Tri-City SCUBA is now an Avelo Dive Center—bringing one of the most talked-about innovations in diving to our local community.
This Isn’t Just New Gear
If you’ve been diving for a while, you already know buoyancy control is everything.
The Avelo System doesn’t just tweak that—it rethinks it entirely.
Instead of managing buoyancy through expanding and venting air, the Avelo System gives you direct, precise control using water, creating a more stable and predictable experience throughout your dive.
It’s not just an upgrade. It’s a different approach.
What Is the Avelo System?
The Avelo System is an open-circuit diving system where the buoyancy control device is the tank itself.
It consists of two main components: the Jetpack and the Hydrotank. When water is added to the Hydrotank, the diver becomes heavier. When water is released, the diver becomes lighter. The Jetpack powers the Hydrotank and is manually controlled by the diver.
That simple shift changes the way buoyancy feels underwater.

Less Weight, Less Fatigue
A significantly lighter system than traditional scuba setups, making topside handling and overall dive prep easier.

Stable Buoyancy
A more stable, neutral feel in the water with less constant adjustment.

More Efficient Diving
Better efficiency underwater can lead to improved air consumption and longer, more relaxed dives.

Streamlined Profile
A cleaner setup helps divers move naturally and stay focused on the dive itself.

More Controlled Movement
The system is designed to improve control and help reduce abrupt ascents and descents.
What It Feels Like in the Water
The biggest difference isn’t technical—it’s how it feels.
Divers often describe it as more stable, more controlled, and less mentally busy.
You’re not constantly adjusting.
You’re not chasing neutral.
You’re just diving.
It’s one of those things that’s hard to fully explain—and easy to understand once you experience it.
How the Avelo System Works
The system combines two core components:
The Jetpack
Powers and controls the system.
The Hydrotank
Manages buoyancy using water inside the tank system itself.
Add water and you become heavier.
Release water and you become lighter.
That gives divers a more direct and controlled way to manage buoyancy underwater.
Learn to Dive Avelo
The Recreational Avelo Diver (RAD) course is designed for certified divers who want to learn the system properly.
It includes eLearning plus in-water training with an Avelo-certified instructor. In-water training can be completed in one day, though a second day is recommended so divers can better experience the buoyancy advantages of the system.
Once certified, divers receive a digital certification and can access participating Avelo opportunities more easily.
Open Water or higher required.
For certified divers ages 12 and up.
eLearning plus in-water training.
Typically completed in 1–2 days.
Digital certification upon completion.
Why We Brought Avelo to Tri-City SCUBA
We don’t chase trends.
We look for things that genuinely improve the diving experience—and help divers build more control and confidence underwater.
The Avelo System caught our attention because it challenges one of the hardest parts of diving: buoyancy control.
We’re bringing it in thoughtfully, with a focus on proper training, real-world application, and honest conversations about whether it’s the right fit for your diving style.
No hype. Just good diving.
