Description
Are you looking for a class that will teach you how to safely dive independently? Perhaps you dive in conditions where you cannot always see your dive buddy or where no dive buddy is available. Other times you may find yourself paired up with a diver less capable and you have to rely on your skills to get you out of trouble should it arise. The SSI Independent Diver Specialty Course does just that. It is an excellent course that will teach you self-rescue skills as well as go over critical information should you find yourself having to dive alone.
In this program, you will learn the skills you need to safely and confidently dive independent of a dive buddy. You will be taught how to rig, carry and use specialized equipment such as pony bottles and stage cylinders. By developing your skills, you will become a confident with your ability as a diver and be able to assist yourself as well as others of the need arises. Upon completion, you will earn the SSI Independent Diver specialty certification.
The course includes one classroom session, one pool session and two open water training dives, typically conducted at Lake Phoenix. The cost of the course includes the online course, classroom and training dives. Equipment rental, air fills, entrance fees are not included.
Student Prerequisites
Minimum age: 18 years old.
Have logged at least 75 open water dives totaling 50 hours or more.
Have the following SSI certifications, an equivalent from a recognized training agency, or provide proof of experience by showing at least five (5) logged experience dives in each of the following areas:
Deep Diving
Navigation
Night & Limited Visibility
Have the following SSI certifications or equivalent from a recognized training agency:
Diver Stress & Rescue
Required Equipment:
All personal dive gear
Reel, SMB, 2 cutting devices, compass, dive light, redundant air supply (13cf, 19cf, 30cf or 40cf cylinder with regulator and pressure gauge).
Important Registration Information:
- If you are not already registered with SSI, please go to https://my.divessi.com/register and create a FREE mySSI account. Once registered, we will be able to assign the online training course to your account.
- Students have one year from the date of registration to complete their course. In-water training for all programs must be completed within six (6) months of the last academic or in-water training session.
- Students enrolled in classes involving in-water training are required to complete a medical questionnaire and may be required to obtain a physician’s authorization prior to any in-water training. - Classes are non-refundable and non-transferable.
